While we stand in grace, God also calls us to walk with him, grow, change and mature. To help us he gives us his Spirit, his word and his people. To grow we must listen to him, pray and follow through with actions.
God’s grace is a fantastic thing. Paul says in Romans 5:1-2
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
We have been justified through faith because Jesus died as a propitiation, turning aside God’s wrath and redeeming us from judgment and death (Romans 3:21-24). We now stand by faith in grace. Grace is something we never grow out of or move on from. Our faith, our prayers, our decisions, our actions, our ministries and whatever else we can think of exist in this position of grace in which we stand. We are always depending on God’s undeserved kindness and mercy.
But what next? While we stand in grace, God also calls us to walk with him, grow, change and mature. To help us he gives us his Spirit, his word and his people. To grow we must listen to him, pray and follow through with actions. Church is essential for this, as is Growth Group and encouraging Christian friendships. Growth is good and possible while we stand in grace.
So why this blog?
I’m hoping this blog will add to what we learn in church and Growth Group. I’ll be including things like:
- “How to” style blogs. E.g. “How to read the Bible with your spouse”
- Resource guides. E.g. “5 books to read on the Cross”
- Theological topics. E.g. “Current challenges to the doctrine of justification”
Hopefully the posts will be well tagged so you can search for things in the future.
So that’s it. Time to start thinking and writing. Send me suggestions and I’ll add them to the wishlist.
